Hi Becca,
Thank you, these were really powerful pointers!
Yes, I can see the doubt trying to creep in with thoughts of “this isn’t it, this isn’t enough, what will you do if the seeking is over?”
Can you see it not as your thought, not as true, not as guidance, but as a reflex? A muscle memory from a role that’s being dissolved?
Yes this rings true, these thoughts as a reflex, a habit still spinning out. Not "my" thoughts.
“Tonight my body has felt really clumsy walking around, awkward, perspective strange too, like my location is off when I look down on the body”
Sit with eyes closed for about 15 minutes.
Paying attention only to the pure sensations, without relying on thoughts or mental images:
Can it be known how tall the body is?
Not at all!
Does the body have a weight or volume?
There is sensation of tingling, some vibrations, but no sense of volume or weight present.
In the actual experience does the body have a shape or a form?
There is no way to “know” this when the eyes are closed.
Is there a boundary between the body and the clothing?
Melts together, can’t be felt, no boundary.
Is there a boundary between the body and the chair?
None, feels as one.
Is there an inside or an outside?
If there is an inside - the inside of what exactly?
Feel sensation of heartbeat in chest, breathing expanding the ribs, tingling in legs, but with eyes closed this feels expansive- all happening together.
If there is an outside - the outside of what exactly?
Out in nature, the body sitting, goosebumps rise on arms with the cold wind blowing, feels like on the “outside” of body, but this might be dipping into thoughts/labeling of an actual sensation just happening?
What does the word/label ‘body’ ACTUALLY refer to?
Doing this outside with the eyes closed, the elements of nature coming and going, “my” body just a part of all of it with it’s coming and goings also just happening. Nobody controlling anything, just like the raining dropping from nothing. The word "body" is just a "word" that could never describe the actual. Words=labels! How could you describe a tree without using any words, impossible, this was once true through the eyes of all of us before language was known. Mysterious and wondrous come up, but these are just more words/labels trying to describe JUST WHAT IS.
What is the ACTUAL experience of the body?
Look very carefully, especially with the last question.
All of the senses of the body (the usual 5 senses) are just happening, nothing controlling any of them, with thought/labeling absent, life is so simple. With the eyes closed, no way to even be sure there was a”body”. No boundary between life and the body.
Go back out into nature and simply spend some time watching the movement of the whole. See how clouds move, trees swing, leaves wiggle, grass moves, insects, birds - all move all the time.
Yes! Yes! All this is much clearer in nature. Nothing divided, all movement spontaneous…bees buzzing flowers, birds singing in all directions, tree buds bursting into existence! There is NO director of this beautiful symphony, how could there ever be?
Then move focus to sensations and see how they too are in constant motion, thoughts come and go, sounds, colors, sensations come and go.
HA! These sensations and thoughts that use to belong to “me” are also like nature’s beautiful spontaneous symphony! Nothing in charge! I love what you said, watch “the movement of the whole-all move all the time” That resonates so deeply right now!
Notice that everything is part of one movement.
Then close your eyes and see if there is a line between you and out there, between you and life itself.
No line, all is one life-one movement
Is there an inside and an outside of Life?
Not there!
Is there something which is not included in the movement of the whole?
How could there be? It wouldn’t BE!
Is there a witness that is watching life happening from a distance?
No actual “witness”, nothing outside or inside, just life happening and happening and happening, it can’t NOT happen!
Is witnessing part of the one movement too?
If “witnessing” is felt to be happening for “someone” then that would also be what’s happening!
Is there anything which is not just happening?
A BIG NO!! Every-thing & Any-thing has always and will BE just happening!
In appreciation,
D
