LU is focused guiding for seeing there is no real, inherent 'self' - what do you understand by this?
The self is a construct we develop from childhood. Thoughts, senses and conditioning help us believe that there is a self. In theory, (for me) thoughts and senses occur, but not to a someone.
What are you looking for at LU?
I am looking for ease in life and the hope that the realization of no self will help provide this. I have an understanding of the theory of no self, and have even glimpsed the possibility of such, but no solid realization of that as truth.
What do you expect from a guided conversation?
Different ways to look at the truth of my existence. I understand the theory. Thoughts are happening but they are not owned by an entity. Sensations, occurrences also. There is no one that it is happening to. But a way to get it to “stick”
What is your experience in terms of spiritual practices, seeking and inquiry?
Meditating for many years. Alum of the finders course and an active member in the alumni community Perfectly OK.
On a scale from 1 to 10, how willing are you to question any currently held beliefs about 'self? 8
Theory but not realization
