Hi Stacy,
Can you remember a time when you lied to someone you love?
Ha! I definitely can remember such a time—pretty vividly…
Remembering, do you find any sensation In the same "family" of sensations as one of the two above? Which one? Expansion or contraction?
Definitely contraction! A horrible memory/sensation! It still makes me cringe…

I see what you’re getting at!

Much love,
Pascal

Excellent!

This will guide you well as you LOOK and do these exercises.

When you feel that expansive feeling, you're LOOKING, something is true. You may also experience involuntary tears or chills. If you get that contraction? Well, there is usually content of thought or some untrue story lurking in your LOOKING. It's a very useful tool.

Label-Reality Correlation

There is a belief that labels have a one-to-one correspondence with ‘reality’. But there isn’t. Just like it is a generally accepted belief that labels like ‘good’ and ‘bad’ are inherent characteristics of ‘things’. But actually, they are not.

When you look at the word label ‘GREEN' , what is the actual experience?

Is the color red ‘experienced’, or is the color green ‘experienced’ as the label suggests?

Does the label ‘GREEN’ have a one-to-one correspondence with ‘reality’? Or does the label suggest something else other than what is here now (red colour)?

Is 'green' associated in any way with the experience of the colour red; or is green just a label that overlays the actual experience of red?

If the label ‘GREEN’ is replaced with the label ‘GOOD’ or ‘BAD’ , is the redness affected in any way as the labels suggests?

Does redness become ‘good’ or ‘bad’, or do the labels have no affect whatsoever on ‘reality’?

Let me know what is SEEN. Leave out content of thought.

Hi Stacy

Colorwise my experience is red.
Is the color red ‘experienced’, or is the color green ‘experienced’ as the label suggests?
The color red is experienced.
Does the label ‘GREEN’ have a one-to-one correspondence with ‘reality’? Or does the label suggest something else other than what is here now (red colour)?
It suggests something else other than what is here now.
Is 'green' associated in any way with the experience of the colour red; or is green just a label that overlays the actual experience of red?
In thought I can find an association, but not in actual experience. Green is just a label overlaying the actual experience of red.
If the label ‘GREEN’ is replaced with the label ‘GOOD’ or ‘BAD’ , is the redness affected in any way as the labels suggests?
No, the redness is not affected in any way by the labels.
Does redness become ‘good’ or ‘bad’, or do the labels have no affect whatsoever on ‘reality’?
The labels have no effect on the redness.

Much love

Hi Pascal,

Yes, right. I want to say "obviously," but I've had people miss this and try to complicate it. So, good work.

Now another version of that:

Friend/Stranger

Bring up a thought about a character labeled "friend."

Then bring up a thought about a character labeled "stranger."

Compare these thoughts.

Is there a difference in these thoughts?

Is there a true difference or is it just different content?

Now, bring up a thought about a character labeled "friend."

After that, look at a thought about the character labelled "me.”

Is there a difference?

Is there anything special about thoughts with the content "me-character?"

Let me know what is found.

Hi Stacy
Compare these thoughts.
Is there a difference in these thoughts?
Within these thoughts there are many differences. Differences in thought.
Is there a true difference or is it just different content?
It’s very different content. But both are mental objects in awareness and as such they are not different.
Now, bring up a thought about a character labeled "friend."
After that, look at a thought about the character labelled "me.”
Is there a difference?
Haha, no! Both mental objects or labels appearing in direct experience.
Is there anything special about thoughts with the content "me-character?"
No, they're thoughts like any other thoughts with any other content. In this sense all thoughts are the same—just thoughts!

Much love,
Pascal

Hi Pascal,

Your answers are a little confusing.
Both are mental objects in awareness and as such they are not different.
That's pretty much right. They're both content of thought, stories we made up.
Both mental objects or labels appearing in direct experience.
How do they, Friend, Stranger, and Me, appear in Direct Experience?

By Seeing? Hearing? Feeling? (body Sensations) Tasting? Smelling? Thought Arising? (as we have been discussing, content of thought is not DE).

What do you find when you LOOK?

The mental objects or labels (which I understand to be nothing other than thoughts) appear as thoughts in direct experience—independent of their content (friend, stranger, me). So, thoughts arising.

Okay. The wording isn't as clear as it might be, but you seem to know they arise & that is DE, although their content is not DE.

Thank you. I know it's not always easy to get the words right.

This exercise involves simple, direct LOOKING.

Look for the place where your butt ends & the chair on which you're sitting begin. Look closely. What is found there?

I can’t look with my eyes since I can’t turn my head and body that far. And in sensation I can’t find a clear boundary, it’s more a diffuse sense of pressure or weight that doesn't really end at a clearly defined place.

Hi Pascal,

Yes. This is the only exercise I was given when I was guided here.

Since the point of the exercise is simply to LOOK, nothing more us needed & it can be practiced repeatedly until SEEING shifts.

Right. No clear boundary, just Sensation.

Practice this a little more. Relax with it. We "know" you won't find a boundary, but that doesn't matter here. Remember Colored Socks?

Yes, there is Awareness. but is there any separate "self?"

Just LOOK a bit more & reply what is found.

Hi Pascal,

The request here is to post every day. Is everything OK?

Posting every day is for your benefit. It keeps your momentum going.

Hi Stacy,

sorry for my repeated delayed reply! I was teaching in an 8-day intensive until yesterday and got immersed too deeply to post. But I did practice the exercise repeatedly during the week and what started to happen is that this dissolution of my physical boundaries started to spread. First it was only the backside of my body, around my butt and along my back. It felt like as if my backside was just open. And then later it also spread to my front, affecting my whole body, where I just feel sensations of pressure, density, warmth, but no clear boundary. And it feels a little bit like being held or embeded in and also made out of water or jelly or energy. And there is an increased sense of vibrancy and flow that is experienced!

Just a heads-up: I will be off to a training in Bavaria from Wednesday till Sunday next week. I might not be able to post every day during this time.

Much love
Pascal

Okay. Thank you. It helps if you let me know in advance when you can i look for your posts morning & night.

This is great. Keep looking! This is working for you.
And there is an increased sense of vibrancy and flow that is experienced!
Excellent.

If you have the opportunity, listen to 'Where is 'I'" on those Dropbox recordings I shared to give you a similar exersise.

Looking is all we need to do.

I am not going to add anything else right now since you will be busy and you have something that is helping.

Hi Pascal,

It has been more than 2 weeks.

Are you continuing? Taking a break? Stopping?

Thank you,

Hi Stacy,
I'm continuing! I'm still very busy and haven't returned home, but instead traveled on to Switzerland and am working from here, traveling to different places for work meetings and to visit friends. But I've had a big presentation today and am a bit more relaxed now. I wasn't able to find the "Where is I" recording in the dropbox. Maybe I overlooked it or it has a different name?
