Hi Keith,

We've got the idea of 'tree'.

How physically can you experience to what that idea refers?

Much love,
John

Hi John,
How physically can you experience to what that idea refers?
I can touch, a tree, smell it, taste it, look at it, listen to it. These all provide physical sensations which attach to the idea of tree.

Ok, great.

Wait for the next breath and notice the breathing in, and out.

Breathing is happening.

What is it that is breathing?

Hi John,

The breath happens, even though I think “I am breathing” it happens without any “I” doing it, and I hold breath to be essential to my vitality. Curious, strange.

Let's put I to one side for now.

And focus for a little while on a living breathing human being.

If we were to meet up, I'd see a human being before me, as would you.

There is a human being writing this, and a human being reading this.

Let's keep it at this level - the living level.

Sit, reflect, meditate if you wish, on the particular human being you are.

Move an arm, walk, sit down, eat, drink.
All human being activities.

The work here is to be conscious of being a human being.

Explore, and tell me what happens.

Much love,
John

Hi John,

Explore, and tell me what happens.
There are experiences, sensations, feelings and thoughts. The thoughts form stories. Some sensations are pleasant, and some are unpleasant. There are actions, coughing, drinking, sneezing, walking, pedalling, worrying, relaxing. There’s desire, wanting things to be a certain way, and frustration when they aren’t. There is beauty in clouds, flowers, trees. There’s coolness and warmth. There’s forgetting, and remembering. There’s excitement and boredom. There’s change. Traffic rumbling, a crow squawking, a breeze brushing arms, moving plants.

Ok, and with walking let's say, as you walk, notice this particular human being walking.

When you sit, notice this particular human being sitting.

You might smile, and notice this particular human being smiling.

Sit, being a particular human being.

Much love,
John

Hi John,
I’ve been noticing the particular human being and don’t have much to say. There’s a sense of familiarity.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the email. Yes, we'll continue our inquiry.

Right now, I don't have much time, so I'll get back in 3/4 days.

Best wishes,
john
