Awareness

Postby Caylirae » Thu May 21, 2020 4:41 am

LU is focused guiding for seeing there is no real, inherent 'self' - what do you understand by this?
I understand that there is only one consciousness, and no real self that experiences the world. It is consciousness that experiences the "you." I am not my body, mind or thoughts. There is no "I".

What are you looking for at LU?
I am looking for guidance to help me discuss awareness. I've been on a spiritual path for a couple years now, and feel drawn to finding truth now more than ever. I would like help with this discovery of truth.

What do you expect from a guided conversation?
I would expect some guidance in going within. Maybe the conversation would help point me towards truth and the essence of "being". I would expect some help with clarity in understanding the concept of no "self".

What is your experience in terms of spiritual practices, seeking and inquiry?
Meditation has started to become an essential part of my life. I listen to podcasts that discuss non duality, zen buddhism, etc. I read books about presence and awakening. While in sitting, I will inquire with thoughts like, "who is I, or what am I?"

On a scale from 1 to 10, how willing are you to question any currently held beliefs about 'self?

Hi Caylirae. :)

My name is Bananafish, one of the guides in this forum.
Welcome to LU! I'm more than glad to be your guide.

Thanks for the detailed intro; I found something interesting in it, and
wondering if we could use that as a stepping stone to our dialogue.

And also, I have to tell that I'm NOT here to discuss anything about any concept,
(and anyway, I don't know or care about concepts about something called "no-self" at all)
so if understanding of concept is what you want, I would rather not continue the dialogue.

Please let me know what you think, and please really think about it, as this
may well determine the course of the dialogue. I'm mainly here for people to
see truth, not to go further astray in the maze of BS (beliefs, concepts, mystifications).

If you'd like to continue, please answer the following question.

I understand that there is only one consciousness, and no real self that experiences the world.

Does what you call consciousness experience the world?

Looking forward to your reply!

Thank you for reaching out! I'm looking forward to having a guide. And to answer your question, I think consciousness does experience the world. Otherwise, how would we be able to perceive this reality?

Hi Caylirae. :) Glad to receive your reply!

I think consciousness does experience the world. Otherwise, how would we be able to perceive this reality?

Are you 100% confident about the above?

If that thought was a lie (I'm not telling you are a liar, btw),
what would be the reasons for it to be a lie?

Please try to rebut yourself the thought "consciousness needs to experience the world
in order for us to perceive reality."

Warm wishes,

Bananafish

Maybe consciousness does not need to be able to perceive reality for it to exist, but the thought of "I am" is perceived in this reality. And that comes from the mind and is just a thought, in consciousness.

Hi again. :)

Are you 100% confident that "consciousness needs to experience the world
in order for us to perceive reality?"

Oh, and one more thing; no "maybe" or "I think" please.

Please write only about what is directly perceived (what's seen, heard, touched, smelled)
right in this moment, without the need to be thought about.

Does any sense experience the world? Does itch experience the world?
How? Could you describe?

The itch doesn't experience the world, but "I" experience the itch. The "I" experiences the 5 senses, which make up our reality.
