Re: First day at school

From my most recent message: 'Knowledge' is an idea, thought-content. It arises co-dependently upon the ideas of 'knowledge' and 'knower'. But there is no 'knower', so the bundle collapses. Correction: 'Knowledge' ... arises co-dependently upon the ideas of 'knower' and 'known'. Thanks for all your ...

Re: First day at school

A little lighter or more 'open' if that makes any sense. Not in any huge way, but rather as if I'd gotten bogged down and now the brakes are off again. I know that I'm still referring to a something that "got waylaid", but the illusion persists. To what exactly does the illusion persist? The illusi...

Re: First day at school

the self refusing to evaporate. What self is refusing to evaporate? This was intended as metaphor. The illusion keeps reasserting itself even when it has been seen through. When shown how a simple magician's card trick works, you can't help but see the trick every time it is performed. But with the...

Re: First day at school

But then... who is watching? Is there a watcher (subject) + the experience (object) being watched? Is there a watcher separate from the experience? Is there anything watching? No, there is no watcher and there is no watched. The question was just a continuation of the theme, the task to which I mus...

Re: First day at school

Please answer the following questions with some detail please, and answer what's true for you rather than any sort of 'ideal' answer. Also please provide examples where asked. 1) Is there a separate entity 'self', 'me' 'I', at all, anywhere, in any way, shape or form? Was there ever? There is no su...

Re: First day at school

“It is felt as something forgotten” – is a thought, not a feeling (sensation). Thoughts often play the trick by saying “I feel cheated”, “I feel abandoned”, “I feel refused”, “I feel misguided”, “I feel I lost something”, “I feel I forgot something”, etc. – as if these things could be felt, since t...

Re: First day at school

There is AE which is undeniable. But saying that I = everything (AE) is just a conceptual overlay on AE. Only thought would label everything (AE) as ‘I’. Is this clear? Is it totally clear that the word ‘I’ doesn’t point to anything, meaning that behind the word ‘I’ or ‘self’ there is nothing there...

Re: First day at school

So is the body YOU? The body is 'me' in the story that is being told in thought-content. I take a step back and 'I' am the witness to that story being told, the "audience of one". I take another step back and the witness turns out to be part of the story too. I stepped back until it was evident tha...

Re: First day at school

I get the impression that this is what you call AE, or at least a part of it (since TV is constrained to visual experience). Let’s replace the word ‘actual’ with direct. So direct experience is what is there for a baby without learning language and concepts. Direct experience is what can be known w...

Re: First day at school

Andy, from your comments it’s not clear for me what you can REALLY SEE, and what is just an intellectual conclusion. When I was a very young boy I recall mentioning to my mother, "in passing" so to speak, that sometimes everything looks like it's on TV. What I meant was that the world seemed to be ...

Re: First day at school

There is nothing in AE that "does" this abstraction. Thoughts do not "do" this abstraction. Thoughts do not "do" anything, but rather they (as containers) arise in AE. Thoughts do not "know" anything. Thoughts are not "aware" of anything. Abstractions arise as part of thought content. If it’s clear...

Re: First day at school

You are NOT saying that the content of thought has NOT been abstracted from AE What would do / perform the abstraction? Thought? Or what else? Can thoughts do anything? Do thoughts know anything about a sensation or an image/color? Can thoughts know anything? Are thoughts aware? There is nothing in...

Re: First day at school

I'm still finding these propositions challenging Vivien. What I'm trying to say is that I can't see how the content of thoughts (and the content of mental images) could be inconsistent with AE. You have difficulties because you’re trying to solve this intellectually, like thinking about a solution....

Re: First day at school

There is NO difference between the content of a thought or the content of a mental image. Both (contents) are just ‘imagined’. Their only ‘reality’ is just the ‘container’ themselves (the phenomenon of thought or mental image). Can you see this? I'm still finding these propositions challenging Vivi...
